With the March 28, the State Ministry of Commerce together with nine departments issued the ‘Guidance on Promoting High-Quality Development of the Catering Industry’, which particularly emphasises the role of the catering industry in solid waste reduction and resourceful reuse. On the same day, the Standing Committee of the 16th Shanghai Municipal People's Congress also passed the Regulations on the Construction of Waste-Free Cities in Shanghai, which addresses the current situation of solid waste management in Shanghai, and explicitly puts forward the following requirements: to establish a management system for the whole industrial chain of solid waste, to achieve traceability of the classification and recycling of solid waste, to promote the resourceful reuse of the sources of solid waste, and to promote the zero-fill landfill of solid waste. This regulation will be formally implemented from 5 June, marking an important step in the construction of a waste-free city in Shanghai and in the field of circular economy, reflecting the firm determination of Shanghai, as the economic centre of China, to promote low-carbon environmental protection and sustainable development.

The forum also attracted the participation of representatives from well-known domestic and foreign catering chains and other related enterprises, Starbucks, KFC, Ruixing Coffee, Whole Family Convenience Stores, Shanghai Auntie, CoCo Milk Tea, Nova Coffee, Fresh Life, Yiho Tang, Shanghai Railway Materials and other well-known catering company representatives and industry leaders, to participate in this cross-sectoral synergistic carbon-reducing development plan, aimed at building a green and low-carbon supply chain synergistic emission reduction, to It aims to build a green and low-carbon supply chain to reduce carbon emissions, promote the innovation mode of carbon reduction of the whole industrial chain starting from recycling disposable paper cups, and jointly help achieve the goal of zero waste and all-around carbon reduction action in the urban environment.
